Signed and dated in the plate lower left Rembrandt .f. 1646.
A fine 18th century impression of Bartsch's second and final state, Usticke's third state of four, printed after the additional work was added to the dark shadows, but prior to the
appearance of the scratch to the left of the boy's head.
In excellent condition, printed on a sheet with narrow margins on all four sides. This etching is closely related in both style and subject to 'Nude Man Seated before a Curtain' (Bartsch 193), which was created during the same year. In both instances the model was probably posing for Rembrandt's pupils, when the master captured him on the etching plate. There are a number of drawings by Rembrandt's students, some of them corrected by the master himself, of nude male models, confirming that Rembrandt used them in his studio often.
