Signed and dated in the plate lower left Rembrandt 1645.

A fine 18th century impression of Bartsch's only state Usticke's second state of three, showing the gap in he arch at the top of the plate but printed well prior to the late rework and appearance of the black spot to the left of Abraham's head, probably printed by Pierre Francois Basan circa 1797.

In excellent condition, printed on a sheet with small margins all around. Abraham, being tested by God, was ordered to sacrifice his son Isaac on a mountain in the land of Moriah. They left together for the spot, Isaac carrying the wood for the fire, and Abraham a torch and knife. Underway, the unsuspecting Isaac asked where the lamb for the offering was, and Abraham told him that God would provide one. Abraham was about to sacrifice his son with the knife when an angel appeared and commanded him to desist, having already proved himself in the eyes of God. (Genesis 22:1-9)

Bartsch 34; Hind 214; Biorklund-Barnard 45-D; Usticke 34 ii/iii
