Joan Colomer Valls

Joan Colomer Valls was born on May 27, 1965 at San Feliu de Pallerols, near Olot, Spain. In this city, some 125 years ago the painter Joaquim Vayreda initiated the Olotina Landscape School which is the fruit of his contacts with the painters from Barbizon. Joan Colomer had his first lessons in the painting field from his father, also a painter. For five years he learned daily from him. Afterwards he temporarily abandoned painting and moved to Barcelona where he entered the university and undertook courses in philosophy and letters.

Having finished his college years, he installed himself in Madrid where he resided for 9 months. There he painted again and visited the city's most important museums. During that time he traveled to Holland, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Italy, France and Thailand, where he was inspired by the most important artworks of Sorolla, Bervete, Velazquez, Goya, Van Gogh, Mauve, Nolde, Klim, Shiele and the French impressionists. In 1990 he married Dolors Domenech and made Madrid his residence. He attended the Madrid Municipal School of Beaux Arts and soon after began exhibiting his works in Barcelona and Madrid. In 1993 he moved to the countryside where he now resides with his wife, daughter and beloved dog, Betty.
