Born in Chile in 1949. Graduated in Arts at University of Chile. He became an art teacher at the same university in 1978. Basso is a renowned painter in his country, where he has grown up as an artist, and abroad since he is gaining prestige as a result of his latter works. His modern style mingles conceptual art with human views, where dramatic scenes of his environment are splendidly portrayed. Considering himself as an innovator, Basso seems to be ready to acquire different influences to improve his desire of full expression.
His style is not easy and method is a remarkable trait; images built around semantic structures on what he himself calls minimal art. It is typical on his works to find different symbols in a purpose to arouse the viewer's expectations. The house is a concept representing a monolith of extinction, because every work of Basso symbolizes not only a way to perish but also a return to life; the house shelter the deepest aspirations of mankind, the place where everyone can feel secure before the persistent threat to life and individual freedoms.
